Lot details Registration No: Q685NTM Chassis No: SABTVR03622156742 Mot Expiry: May 2007
Introduced in 1983, the Leader was the second model to emerge from Sylva Autokits. Designed by company founder and former draughtsman Jeremy Philips, its lightweight box-section spaceframe chassis was equipped with Vauxhall-derived independent front suspension, a 'live' rear axle, disc / drum brakes and rack and pinion steering. Powered by a choice of four-cylinder OHV Ford engines, the model was clad in two-piece GRP bodywork. Equally at home on road or track, the Leader soon made a name for itself in 750 MC racing circles (Brian Healey using one to win the club's kit car championship three times). Later sold off by Philips, the Leader project passed through the hands of first Neil Johansen's Swindon Sportscars and then Robley Motors.
Finished in red with grey upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its 1600cc Ford engine, four-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork and wheels / tyres (though, he rates the paintwork as "very good"). Apparently "a good little driver", 'Q685 NTM' is said to have had just "two previous owners" both of whom "used it for competition work as well as road use". Riding on alloy wheels, it is understood to benefit from "twin Weber carburettors, all weather gear and a car cover". An invigorating road car or potentially inexpensive motorsport entry, this well-presented Leader is offered for sale with "full history" and MOT certificate valid until May 3rd 2007.
