This Valiant two wheeler, which was built in 1958 at the Goodman family's Velocette's Hall Green works and where bike production finally ended with closure in 1971, was originally despatched to supplying Carlisle motorcycle dealers Tiffens. Thereafter, it was resident for many years in `Heartbeat' and `The Royal' country around Whitby and Scarborough. When entered for this sale, just 31,550 miles were recorded on the speedo of VAO 580.
According to the current owner, the 192cc powered twin from Brum was in receipt of a major restoration which took place 1985-1987, since when, he says, the bike has always been most carefully maintained. He tells us that there should be a huge amount of technical literature, bills and correspondence with specialists among the documents included. This history file may be inspected pre-auction during viewing at the Stoneleigh sale venue.
Cycle parts and suspension components are said to be in excellent condition, Brunswick Green paintwork also excellent, whilst two-cylinder motor and electrics are rated as being good and gearbox and shaft-drive transmission excellent. The current MOT will not require renewing until August and the latest tax disc will be valid until July.
