When Bentley introduced their first S Series model in 1956, enhancing comfort, elegance, performance and roadholding, the motoring press enthused that the new car offered "a degree of safety, comfort and performance that is beyond the experience and imagination of the world's motorists...which rose as a magic carpet, annihilating great distance."
The 1958-built S1 offered here - a 4-door standard steel saloon which has been vendor owned for the past twenty years - is finished in white with cream leather interior, the headlining and carpets having both been renewed.
We are told that the 4.9-litre 6-cylinder engine was fully overhauled with many components renewed including water pump and radiator 13,000 miles ago, the current condition being described as good. The transmission is also said to be sound with gearbox and rear axle reportedly in good order.
In the history file are MOT test certificates covering 1984 to 1994 and, although 85,700 miles were showing on the odometer, the vendor believes that this sporting and luxurious classic has most probably done over 100,000 miles from new. Potentially inexpensive, too.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
