Lot details Registration No: ILL 6100 Chassis No: DRH31224 Mot Expiry: July 2004
The Shadow was originally only made as a 4-door saloon, though coachbuilders James Young did convert 35 cars to 2-doors. In 1966, H J Mulliner/Park Ward crafted a 2-door coupe/saloon which was followed by a convertible in 1967. With a more powerful motor, this model was renamed the Corniche in 1971.
The same year, following financial problems from an aero engine contract however, which led to the aeroside of the business being nationalised, Rolls Royce Motors Limited was also floated as a private company to make the cars.
Being auctioned here is a Corniche convertible. The vendor believes that the 1977-handbuilt status symbol has actually done an overall mileage of around 83,000 miles, though the reading was zeroed when the motor was renewed some 15,000 miles ago. Indeed, there are bills on file to substantiate this engine work as well as lots of other bills charting work carried out.
Inevitably, after such expenditure, the 6750cc 8-cylinder engine and 4-speed automatic transmission are said to be in good order. The convertible coachwork by Mulliner Park Ward in Brewster Green is described as being good as is the light green hide interior. The car is shod with whitewalls, while the interior benefits from having picnic tables on the rear of the front seats, rear seat headrests and still newish green sheepskin rugs. The official service book is well stamped and we understand that the cherished registration currently on the car stays with it.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
