Lot details Registration No: JTM637F Chassis No: GHD3-141313G Mot Expiry: April 2004
The monocoque-construction MGB with large 1798cc engine replaced the separate chassis MGA in September 1962. A fixed head coupe B GT joined the open B roadster from 1965.
Auctioned here is a 1968-built MGB GT on 72-spoke wires, acquired by the Cheshire vendor in September 2000 from Manchester MG specialists Hewitts. Having been in receipt of extensive structural and mechanical refurbishment, including renewal of trim and brightwork with panels acrylic-lacquered for better protection, the coupe is only being sold, we are told, because of the need to better accommodate an expanding family.
Before the current ownership, over £9000 has been spent with a marque garage with receipts on file detailing the work done. The current condition of bodywork and Tartan Red paintwork is described as being excellent and the red leather interior very good, whilst the 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual gearbox are both reportedly in good order. We are told that this car, which has the benefit of stereo and alarm, has been used regularly and always garaged.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
