Lot details Registration No: IF 1933 Chassis No: 15684 Mot Expiry: June 2005
Alvis introduced the Silver Eagle 16/95 with 6-cylinder engine in 1929. Five body styles were offered; 4-light (window) or 6-light saloons, coupe, 4/5-passenger tourer or roadster. Fortunately for what had become a heavy loss-making business, London West End motor trader Charles Follett funded a rescue investment in 1930.
We are told that this 1933-dated, Coventry-built Alvis with Irish registration was originally a Charlesworth bodied saloon - indeed, the coachbuilder's plaque is still displayed under the bonnet. Believed to have been converted to an open special around twenty years ago, the righthand drive 2-seater has been finished in green and has green hide interior, while the instrumentation panel appears to have been done to a reasonable standard. The likely to be 2.6-litre motor is said to be from a Speed 20 and an ENV pre-select gearbox has been fitted. The vehicle was rallied extensively on Irish events for many years and is therefore likely to be well known with Alvis enthusiasts in the Emerald Isle.
The current condition of the chassis, which has the benefit of independent front suspension, and the bodywork as well as the paintwork and the interior are described as being good. While both the engine, which had just been started up and sounded superb prior to the car being entered for this sale, and the transmission as well as the electrics are reportedly in good order. The weather equipment includes tonneau cover and hood, but no sidescreens.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
