Alfa Romeo is one of the great historic names of the Italian motor industry, which along with such other gilt-edged marques as Ferrari and Maserati has only survived by becoming part of and being funded by Agnelli family controlled Fiat. One of the most attractive of all Alfas was the Pininfarina-styled Duetto open two-seater roadster which started to woo Alfisti to great effect from 1966, initialy with 1570cc, then 1750cc in 1968 and a 2-litre engine from 1971, the latter made with relatively few changes until up to 1994.
This Alfa roadster of the type immortalised by the `Graduate' movie first left the factory in 1985, when it was supplied by Bell & Colvill to a solicitor, the only recorded owner from new, as authenticated by an original invoice on file. The Home Counties marque specialist also serviced the roadster in Italian traditional Rosso Corsa with black hide interior, stereo, electric windows and Campagnolo alloys.
According to the odometer reading when entered for the sale, both 1964cc four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual transmission would appear to have done 83,500 miles. The current MOT is valid until next March.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
