Triumph was taken over by the Standard Company in but became the dominant partner by the 1960's and was Leyland controlled by 1961 and a founder member by 1968. It produced a mass of models but its dismantling, post nationalisation, was swift and the marque died out in 1980.
The Dolomite Sprint was produced from 1973 until 1980 and was a very good attempt at a 'hot hatch' (or a sports saloon to be more technical) especially with the enlarged and clever 16-valve 1850cc engine and the rugged TR6 style gearbox. The example we have on offer for you today dates from 1980, the last year of Triumph, and is therefore one of the very last of these exceptional saloons manufactured. It is has the manual gearbox with overdrive and is described as being in very good condition throughout. The present keeper, it has had a mere four owners from new, has completed a lot of work on it including having the suspension rebuilt with new shock absorbers and bushes and it has had a new battery, starter motor and fuel pump.
This superb driving sports saloon is offered entirely without reserve and we are sure that it will give its new owner much pleasure over the coming years and it is currently tested until next year and ready to drive away from today's sale.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
