Such was the popularity of the Karmann styled TR6, particularly in export markets which were led by the US, that a total of 94,619 were built between September 1974 and October 1981. This was the first of the TRs to have headlights positioned at the corners, the tail being redesigned with wrap-round rear lamps. Up until 1973, the Euro TRs were fitted with 150bhp engines, though power was reduced to 124bhp for 1973-1981 cars.
This 1971 TR6 with overdrive was acquired by the vendor from a Maidenhead enthusiast who had started to renovate the sportscar - but unfortunately, due to lack of space and finance, then had to part with his project in part-refurbished state. The present owner immediately consigned the vehicle to TR specialists TR Bitz in Warrington for a professional restoration which cost over £14,000 in 1996. Since then, the new owner has only driven the completed TR approximately 1200 miles, the pristine car always having been covered, garaged and generally pampered.
A full photographic record covering the considerable restoration work carried out, complete with all the relevant invoices, has been included in the well stocked history file. Recently the subject of a comprehensive service and with current MOT, the Triumph is claimed by its owner to be in A1 condition with very good body panels, paintwork and interior, and with excellent 2.5-litre fuel injected motor.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
