Lot details Registration No: 871 XPD Chassis No: HBT714729 Mot Expiry: Oct 2008
Introduced in 1961, the MKII version of Austin-Healey's highly successful 3000 model was visually distinguished by its vertical radiator grille bars and revised front air intake. Sharing the same basic chassis design as its predecessor (independent front suspension, a 'live' rear axle and disc / drum brakes) it enjoyed superior performance thanks to the adoption of triple SU carburettors. Available in two-seater (BN7) or 2+2 (BT7) guises, it was fitted with wire wheels and adjustable front seats as standard (while options included overdrive for its four-speed manual gearbox and a detachable hardtop roof).
Finished in metallic blue with blue upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis and wheels / tyres (while he rates the bodywork and paintwork as "very good" and "excellent" respectively). Reportedly "supplied new via Prynn & Stevens Ltd of London SW2 in July 1962", '871 XPD' is further understood to have been "subsequently owned by C.J. Warburton Esq. of Waddington Old Hall, Lancashire". Apparently "a delight to drive" that "presents very smartly", the 2+2 is said to have covered a nominal mileage since being "treated to a ground up restoration including Denis Welch engine conversion to 'fast road' specification in 1990". Sporting triple SU carburettors, wire wheels and a full tonneau, this appealing Big Healey is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until October 2008.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has not been owned by a member of the Warburton Bakery family as was incorrectly stated in the catalogue.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle comes with a hood, hood frame, sidescreens and tonneau cover all of which may be viewed in the documents office.
