Morris Motors of Cowley were one of the major players of the British motor industry in the prewar years. Owner William Morris, who is recognised by motoring historians as the man who put Britain on wheels and who was later to become ennobled as Lord Nuffield, progressively added most of his component suppliers to a growing portfolio, to which he added rivals Wolseley in 1927.
The Morris range alone became mighty impressive. For in addition to the 1929-launched Isis, which had replaced the Light Six, there was the 2-litre Major (renamed Cowley Six in 1934 and Fifteen Six in 1935), the Sixteen and the Twenty, the older 1548cc Cowley as well as the cheaper Oxford Six.
Offered here is a 1930-built Oxford 4-door saloon with sunroof that has been owned by the vendor since 1975, before than belonging to a Bank Manager for approximately 30 years. The condition of bodywork and red over black paintwork is said to be good, the brown interior fair and the 6-cylinder 16hp motor rebuilt in 1990.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
