The four Walkett Bros, who were Agricultural Engineers from Suffolk, offered their first Ginetta F2 kit car for sale in 1957. It was well-engineered and Lotus VI-like in appearance. About 100 were made before being replaced by the G3, which was really a G2 with a coupe body in GRP. The marque really took off in 1961 when the G4 appeared. Employing a spaceframe, GRP body and Ford 997cc motor, the G4 could be raced, but also made a practical road car.
The next milestone model was the G15, which consisted of a semi-monocoque body in GRP bolted to a ladder chassis frame with Imp engine and gearbox in the back. The G21 with Rapier H120 running gear followed. By the 1980s, the G4 was revived as a longer and wider Series IV kit car, followed by the G27, a further updated G4 with all-indy suspension and 3.5 Rover V8 option.
By 1989, and now in Sheffield, Ginetta were making mid-engined G32 coupes and convertibes fitted with Ford Fiesta XR2 components. The vendor of the open-top G32 sports being auctioned here tells us that the body and paint in British Racing Green are both good as is the Magnolia leather interior. The mileage when entered for this sale was 31,243, which is reckoned to be the total from new. 1.6-litre engine, transmission and tyres are all reportedly good, he says. The MOT is current until next October and it is taxed until March.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
