Intended to provide low-cost transport for the working classes, the Lambretta Model A was introduced in 1947. The brainchild of company founder Ferdinando Innocenti, its ingenious construction owed much to his pre-WW2 experiences in the steel tubing industry. Powered by a 123cc two-stroke engine mated to a three-speed gearbox, the absence of any meaningful bodywork made it both light and economical. Evolving through B, C and D guises, the ultimate 150 D variant arrived in October 1954. While stylistically true to its forebears, the new machine incorporated a number of mechanical refinements such as a damper for its torsion bar rear suspension, revised exhaust system and redesigned gear linkage. Built around a central tubular spine frame with sprung front forks, its two seat mountings concealed a petrol tank and tool box respectively. Reputedly capable of 55mph and 140mpg, it boasted finned drum brakes.
A very late 'D' (Italian production ceased in December 1956), this particular example has apparently been extensively restored. Thought to be to original specification throughout, it comes with both a spare wheel holder and pillion saddle 'grab handle'.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
