Triumph employed the Dolomite moniker for a number of models between 1934 and 1939 when the company passed into receivership. The 14/60, 1.5 Litre and 16 offerings were extremely striking motorcars, the design of which was overseen by Donald Healey and featured a notably flamboyant 'waterfall' radiator grille penned in house by Walter Belgrove. The 14/60 was powered by Triumph's own four-cylinder OHV engine of 1767cc that drove through a four-speed manual gearbox. The model was produced in Saloon, Drophead Coupe and Roadster guise. While the Saloons were the most plentiful of the trio, production still only totalled 166 motorcars, of which a mere 40 are said to survive today; making them rare by any standards.
The example on offer was produced in 1937 and sports Brown over Cream bodywork teamed with Red leather upholstery and carpets. The accompanying paperwork seems to suggest that the Triumph has had just two owners from new and been in the current tenure since October 1991. Though not currently MOT'd or taxed, it appears to be pretty much complete and in pleasingly original condition. Though 'ABT 346' will doubtless require a degree of recommissioning, it would seem to provide a rare opportunity for lovers of these beautifully made sporting Saloons, which received excellent press reviews in period.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
