Lot details Registration No: ULG 590 Chassis No: KAA13-3987 Mot Expiry: Exempt
Launched at the 1953 London Motor Show, the Magnette ZA was styled by Gerald Palmer. A well-mannered sports saloon equipped with independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and hydraulic drum brakes, the newcomer was powered by a 1.5-litre B-Series engine allied to four-speed manual transmission and accounted for 18,076 sales prior to the 1956 arrival of the ZB. A truly remarkable example that was supplied by Geo. H. Eden & Son of Cheshire, `ULG 590' has covered just 5,900 miles from new in the hands of two registered keepers (the first of whom retained it until 2003). Sporting the very rare `tin dash' and dry stored for many years before being repainted during the early 2000s, the MG is described by the vendor as being `mechanically tight with solid bodywork and good paintwork'. Noting that the interior woodwork has `aged somewhat', he rates the Oxblood upholstery and carpets as `lovely'. Perhaps the lowest mileage example extant?
PLEASE NOTE: The vendor bought this lot from a BCA Vintage & Classic Auction on 2nd June 2003 as a one owner car that had covered some 4,000 miles from new. He then sold the MG to its second keeper from whom he recently repurchased it due to marital difficulties. The paperwork work file for the ZA Magnette is missing and should be presumed lost / destroyed. However, the vendor considers the MG's very low mileage to be self-evident from its condition. In an attempt to cure an intrusive cabin noise he replaced the speedo drive cable last week (see invoice on file). Unfortunately, the new component only exacerbated the problem and the odometer is not currently working. The vendor is happy to provide the successful purchaser with a letter chronicling the car's history as he understands it. Interestingly, the first owner shown on the MG's V5C Registration Document is G. Clifford Eden of Mobberley who may well have been a relation of the supplying dealer.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
