Lot details Registration No: Y523FBD Chassis No: SCSA0010 Mot Expiry: T.B.A.
The Strathcarron was designed by and chassis engineered by Reynard Motorsport with a brief to be a return to the simple, lightweight type of sports car which at the time of its development in the late 1990s had become increasingly rare as modern sportscars became ever more desensitised under a myriad of 'creature comforts'. An open 2-seater based on a lightweight composite tub with Hylite aluminium panels weighing just 560 kg and fitted with a 1200cc Triumph motorcycle engine (tuned to develop 140 bhp at 9,800 rpm in SC-5A form) the car had a stunning power to weight ratio of 277 bhp per ton. Featuring the Triumph six speed sequential gearbox the chassis specification included dual wishbone front suspension, De Dion rear axle, Bilstein shock absorbers, OZ wheels and AP/Brembo brakes the specification certainly looked good when the car was unveiled at the 1999 Geneva show. Production was due to start in Summer 2000 but sadly changes to the Single Vehicle Approval regulations effectively 'outlawed' the Strathcarron after only a handful of cars had been made, including only 4 SC-5A models as this car here.
Finished in red with a black cloth interior the 2001 car being sold here today has covered only 850 miles from new we are told, the current owner guaranteeing this to be correct. Commensurate with the mileage the vendor describes all aspects of the cars condition as 'good'. A very rare opportunity to acquire a real 'flying machine' for the summer and a car that we can guaranteed wont be owned by the neighbours!
