The Orazio Satta designed Alfa Romeo 1900 started rolling off a newly installed production line at the Portello works from 1950. The unitary-constructed 4-door saloon was powered by a twin overhead cam 4-cylinder motor of 1884cc capacity; the first Alfa, incidentally, to be built in lefthand drive form.
Progressively more powerful engines were offered from the 80 bhp single carb saloon to the 100 bhp twin carb motor powering the 1900 Turismo Internazionale. The more powerful engine also appeared under the bonnet of the shorter wheelbase 1900C Sprint, which, based on factory-supplied platform frames, was produced in cabriolet form by Pinin Farina and as a coupe by Touring of Milan. Whilst the factory built the 1900 saloon until 1955, by when 17,243 had been produced, only 1796 1900C Sprint were made before the model run ended in 1978, the same year that Alfa brought out their 1975cc 4-cylinder twin cam.
The entrant of this 1956-manufactured, Touring-bodied coupe in red with black interior tells us that the overall condition is all good. The 2-litre engine, he says, was fully rebuilt in September. There are two sets of wheels included; Borranis with Cinturatos for road work and Dunlop-shod racers for circuit activities. Equipped with roll cage and four-point safety harness, this classic Italian is all set-up and circuit-ready for the hugely popular Top Hat race series and, according to the vendor, is eligible for HSCC events as well as such top car fixtures as Goodwood and the Mille Miglia. This car could be your entry into those paddocks.
