Britain's oldest car company owed its origins to a meeting in 1888 between a young English businessman, Frederick Richard Simms, and a German manufacturer of gas engines, Gocklieb Daimler. Simms was impressed with Daimler's petrol engines and he acquired the license to sell Daimler engines in Britain.
We are honoured today to offer, from an extensive private collection, a rare and highly desirable model V26 (25 hp) with even rarer and more desirable landaulette coachwork by Hooper. There is information in the history file that suggests that the same coachwork could have been fitted to a 30hp 'R' chassis for the Queen of Spain but in any event it is in lovely original condition and ready to be used and enjoyed. The rear compartment and drops down and it has a wind down division to either side and two occasional seats and many period fittings.
We are informed that it has the larger, and as it was only introduced in December 1935, the later V4.5 litre engine and it is for sale only reluctantly due to lack of use. As far as we are aware it is very solid but the paintwork has suffered some cracking over the years but that only adds to the patina..............
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
