A large hallmarked silver trophy cup, inscribed `The Dunlop Trophy Presented to "The Daytona Team" for Dedication in Attaining The Land Speed Record of 272.46 mph. at Daytona Beach Florida Feb. 22 1933'. Ornate in shape, it features a removable lid with affixed `bluebird' mascot (believed from the same mould as the Swift factory mascot!) & miniature winged ladies protruding outward from either side of the cup. The vendor has cleaned the front face of the cup, so that the inscribing is legible, but has left the rest of the cup untouched & tarnished throughout. Correctly hallmarked in two places, dating the piece from between 1933 - 34, with leopards head, lion passant, `S' date letter & `CBS' maker's markings, leading us to believe the trophy was produced by well-known London silversmiths `Charles Boyton & Sons'. After `gathering dust' in the vendor's loft for a number of years, H&H are proud to bring such a historic piece to the marketplace. On 22nd February 1933, Malcolm Campbell drove the Railton Rolls-Royce Blue Bird to a new record of 272.46 miles per hour at Daytona Beach. The car was powered by a 2,500hp Rolls-Royce "R" aero engine. Approximately 45x30cm & very imposing.
