Lot details Registration No: TBJ353F Chassis No: GCN1193G Mot Expiry: July 2003
The MGC first hit the showrooms in 1967, employing the same bodyshell as the 1.8-litre powered MGB but with 3-litre engine which resulted in an increased top speed of 118mph. Due to the increased weight at the front, the B's coils springs were replaced by torsion bars, whilst this Big Brother B cost £154 more. Only 8999 MGCs were made before the model run ended in 1969.
With the odometer reading 01900 when entered for this sale, the vendor, who has owned this Abingdon-made sportscar on wire wheels for the past two years during which time it has provided him with reliable everyday transport, tells us that the total mileage covered is actually likely to be 101,900 miles from new in 1968.
The bodywork, subject to a recent repaint in red, is excellent, he says, and the black trim and hood have been renewed, though the seats are still original. It is claimed that the 2912cc six cylinder engine, which has much the same specification as that employed for the power unit fitted to the final version of the Austin-Healey 3000, is excellent and that the transmission and tyres are also reportedly good. The MOT does not expire until July 2003 and a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate authenticating the car's production details is on file as are the V5, green log book and various old MOTs.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
