Richard Henry Lea and Graham Inglesby Francis formed a partnership in 1895 to build bicycles and moved over to four wheels for a brief time in 1904. They returned to cars in 1919 and produced some fine small sports cars. They struggled along and a new company produced a more modern range of cars from 1937, which they kept on building until 1952.
We are extremely pleased to offer this delightful 14 hp sports tourer, which dates from 1948, and has the 767cc four-cylinder petrol engine fitted. This particular car was exported to Australia in December 1948 but returned in 1950 when the purchase tax was paid. The works maintained the car regularly until 1954 following which there was a gap until August 1983 when they received an order for various spare parts with the final entry concerning the supply of distributor gears in June of 1984.
It is described as being in good condition throughout and has been part of a significant private collection since the late 1980's. We believe there to be less than 100 of these models still in existence out of the original 120 that were built. A rare and delightful machine.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
