More evolution than revolution, the DB5 was still a significant step forward from its predecessor when it took to the stage in 1963. Likewise the DB6 of 1965 though, having rejected Carrozzeria Touring's proposals, Aston Martin developed this newcomer in-house. A Kamm-type tail was added, the roofline raised two inches and the length increased by the same amount. As the DB6's bigger bodyshell was unsuitable for the DB4/DB5-type superleggera construction, the conventional body-on-frame technique was employed. Other distinguishing features include: opening quarter lights, oil-cooler air scoop, quarter bumpers front and rear, a more steeply raked windscreen, chrome wire wheels as standard, and the option of power steering, air conditioning, and automatic transmission. The engines were carried over from the DB5, the twin-SU standard unit offering 282bhp and the triple-Weber one of the Vantage giving 325bhp. A Mark II version of the DB6 was unveiled in August 1969 and is identified by its lightly flared arches housing the hubs and wider wheel/tyre package of the DBS. The seats were also shared with the then-new DBS. A fresh option was that of AE Brico electronic fuel injection. However, the system lacked proper development and many of the engines concerned were later converted by the Aston Martin service department to run on Weber carburettors. Some 1,750 DB6s were manufactured by the time the model was fully superseded by the DBS in February 1971, making it the most successful member of the DB4/DB5/DB6 lineage.
This 1970 DB6 is a right-hand drive MkII to Vantage specification with manual gearbox. It sports Kingfisher Blue coachwork and a Black leather interior. In recent times it has benefited from a new clutch, Koni adjustable rear dampers and reground brake discs. The vendor grades the car as follows: bodywork and paintwork "4/10", trim "6/10" and engine and transmission "8/10".
