Lot details Registration No: 1871 DP Chassis No: 159871DN
- A home market, manual / overdrive example with matching chassis and engine numbers
- Sympathetically upgraded with rack and pinion power steering, hi-torq starter, alternator and more modern cooling fan etc
- Voted 'Cherished Car of the Day' at the Fitzherbert Arms' Classic Car Show in May 2019
Entrusted to RS Coachworks of Reading by then owner Raymond Coventry in 1999, this strikingly liveried Jaguar emerged some two years and £24,867.32 later having been treated to a bodywork restoration, interior retrim and sundry mechanical fettling including an engine overhaul, refurbished overdrive and the fitment of rack-and-pinion power steering. Mr Coventry spent a further £9,000 or so on parts and other work, while his successor - Peter Jackson - had the clutch renewed and suspension rejuvenated. The subject of an insurance total loss payment in 2016 due to an electrical fire, `1871 DP' was rewired by its penultimate keeper who not only installed a new radiator and shock absorbers (x4) but also had the rear axle refreshed by Hardy Engineering Transmissions in September 2018 at a cost of £1,560.
Fitted with four new Michelin XS tyres since entering the current ownership, the Jaguar has also been serviced and had attention paid to its exhaust. Keen to ensure that the fire damage had been properly repaired, the vendor submitted the MKII for an Autolign Inspection on 11th July 2019 which it duly passed. As a result the car's status on the HPi database has been changed from `Condition Alert' to `Condition Inspected'. Thoroughly enjoyed over the summer and exhibited at Tatton Park and the Fitzherbert Arms Classic Car Show (being voted `Cherished Car of the Day' at the latter event), this handsome sports saloon is only being offered for sale due to the acquisition of another classic car. The accompanying history file contains old MOTs dating back to 1985 plus numerous bills / invoices from the likes of RS Coachworks, Peter Jarvis, SNG Barratt, Lancaster, Colin Webb Jaguar Spares and WSM Jaguar Specialist Engineering.
PLEASE NOTE: This lot was sold at our October 2nd Live Auction Online for £29,900. However, the overseas purchaser defaulted on the transaction and the vendor has chosen to enter the car into the Buxton sale whilst reserving his right to pursue the defaulting purchaser.
