Built by ex-Jaguar and Ford race engineer David Silcock as an evocation of the Broadspeed-prepared Team Castrol Group 2 Escort RS1600 that John Fitzpatrick drove in period Touring Car Events, this Fast Ford achieved considerable success between 2000 and 2008 with New Zealand owner Dave Crowther behind the wheel including numerous top three finishes at the Ruapuna, Timanu and Levels circuits not to mention winning the Harold Heasley Trophy at the 2007 Skope Classic Internationals. Entrusted to Mass Racing since entering the current ownership in 2009 and co-driven by proprietor Chris Conoley on occasion, the Escort has enjoyed outings at the Algarve, Donington and Masters Historic Festivals etc. Boasting an alloy block, steel crankshaft and Broadspeed-correct but rare Lucas mechanical throttle-slide fuel injection, its 1975cc four-cylinder engine developed some 271.2bhp @ 8,555rpm during a 2010 dyno test. Equipped with a five-speed close-ratio gearbox, Watts linkage / Panhard Rod-located rear axle, limited slip differential, heavy-duty suspension pick-up points, all-round Koni coil-overs and bias adjustable four-wheel disc brakes (ventilated at the front), the two-door saloon also features rack and pinion steering located inside the cross member which is welded to the fully caged shell. Commendably light thanks to its use of fibreglass (bonnet, boot, doors), Lexan (side / rear windows) and steel (bubble wheelarch extensions), the Fast Ford rides on slick-shod Minilite-style alloy wheels and carries a boot-mounted fuel cell. Granted a bar-coded Historic Technical Passport by the MSA for FIA Competition Touring Cars of Period H1 1972 to 1975, the Escort is potentially eligible to compete in the 1972/75 category of the Youngtimer Trophy or in the 70s Celebration Series run by Masters Historic Racing. Deemed by the vendor to be "race ready", this Broadspeed Evocation could not now be professionally scratch built for the guide price.
