BMC asked Alec Issigonis to come up with a new small car, his design being truly innovative, providing the maximum amount of space for passengers in the shortest possible wheelbase. Ingeniously, the engine was mounted transversely driving the front wheels through a 4-speed gearbox located in the sump. Suspension was independent all-round with rubber blocks in suspension.
Offered here is a one elderly lady owned Mini, a 1000cc model with automatic transmission which left the Longbridge works in 1979. The vendor describes the car as being an "absolute time warp" with super documentation on file, including the original bill of sale to the 86 year old, all previous tax discs and MOT certificates as well as the service booklet and Unipart Supercover Passport. The 20,000 miles shown when displayed is claimed to be the genuine total mileage from new and the MOT is current until next November. Such a low mileage, one owner gem is extraordinary and, as the years go buy, less and less likely to be repeated.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
