Lot details Registration No: WMT 1G Chassis No: CRH6717 Mot Expiry: Sept 2006
Introduced in 1966, a year after its four-door Silver Shadow sibling, the elegant H.J. Mulliner Park Ward two-door variant was styled in-house by W.G. Allen. Wonderfully sleek, its revised wing line incorporated a pronounced 'kick' over the rear wheels. Sharing the same advanced platform as the Shadow, it benefited from olio-pneumatic rear suspension, power disc brakes and GM's smooth 400 series automatic gearbox. Powered by Rolls-Royce's proven 6230cc V8 engine, it was trimmed with a superlative mix of sumptuous leather hides, rich wood veneers and deep lambswool carpets. Only 607 two-door MPW cars are thought to have been made.
Finished in midnight with beige upholstery, this particular example is rated by the vendor as being in good overall condition save for "some bubbling under wheel arch". Said to have had "effectively three owners" and to have been "professionally serviced and maintained since new by Jack Barclay, Michael Powles, Broughtons of Cheltenham and Ristes", the present owner adds that he "had the car resprayed by Scot-Moncrieff in 1997. Bodywork was in near perfect condition; original 'Coffee Bean Brown' looked sad". Described as "driving superbly", recent maintenance work has comprised a brake system refurbishment, the replacement of a noisy hydraulic pump, exhaust overhaul and new tyres all round. Believed but not warranted to have covered 81,000 miles from new, this rare car is "offered with comprehensive documented history including pre-delivery correspondence with Rolls-Royce, original instruction manual and tools".
