The Alfetta Saloon was launched in 1972 and the 2-door fastback Coupe based on the same mechanicals followed two years later. While the Saloon was designed in-house, the pretty GTV Coupe was penned by the seemingly immortal Giorgetto Giugiaro. It featured a front-mounted engine driving the rear wheels. Suspension was independent by torsion bars and wishbones at the front and coil springs, De Dion axle, trailing arms and Watts linkage at the rear. Braking was by discs front and rear, and steering by rack and pinion. By 1976, the Coupe was powered by a 1962cc version of Alfa's creamy DOHC in-line four-cylinder engine. Producing some 122bhp at 5300rpm, this was sufficient to accelerate the car to 60mph in 9.5 seconds and to a top speed of 120mph.
Reviewed in the August issue of Classic Car Buyer, this very tidy-looking 1986 GTV features Silver bodywork paired with Black/Grey cloth upholstery. It benefits from a variety of uprates including: Brembo brake callipers, Koni dampers, Compomotive alloy wheels and a new exhaust system. The vendor describes the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, DOHC engine and five-speed manual gearbox as all being in "very good" order, and is selling the Alfa complete with "good service and other history", plus an MOT valid until March 2013.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
