Founded by James Lansdowne Norton, Norton has become one of the legendary marques of the once great and world leading British motorcycle industry. A Norton-twin won the 2-cylinder class of the Isle of Man TT way back in 1907 - and, by 1924, Nortons had won both Sidecar and Senior TTs, whilst the 1930s saw their bikes winning every Senior and Junior TT. Pre and post-WW2, Norton had become the preferred choice of bikers seeking race-bred handling and high performance.
However, such successes on road and track could not prevent severe financial problems. For in 1953, the Birmingham firm was acquired by Associated Motor Cycles, owners of AJS and Matchless, and production moved to South London in 1963.
Offered here is a rare, late 1957-registered Model 50 with 'roadholder' forks as fitted to the legendary Manx racer. Although not confirmed by the former deceased keeper, it is possible that the engine may have been converted to 500cc with cylinder head and barrel conversion. The Norton 350 is presented in the marque's traditional black and silver.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
