Lot 19 - 1991 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC

1991 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC

Lot details
Registration No: K834APC
Chassis No: WDB1260442A610652
Mot Expiry: April 2007

Introduced in 1981, two years after its saloon sibling, the W126 S-class coupe was a singularly elegant design. Styled by Bruno Sacco, the two-door, pillarless construction did little to compromise interior space. Intended as a four-seater transcontinental express, its sleek silhouette hid all round independent suspension, disc brakes, power assisted steering and a range of potent V8 engines mated to automatic transmission. Top of the launch range, the 500SEC was continuously updated gaining Bosch KE-jetronic fuel injection in 1985. Developing a quoted 245bhp and 286lbft of torque, the 4,973cc SOHC V8 was reportedly capable of propelling the super coupe to 60mph in 7.2 seconds and onto a 146mph top speed.
According to information supplied by the vendor: "This high specification Mercedes-Benz 500SEC was probably the last of its kind to leave the factory on 23rd September 1991, which was the day Mercedes closed the production line for this type of vehicle". Finished in blue with cream leather upholstery, 'K834 APC' is described by him as being "in very good condition with regard to its 5 litre engine, automatic gearbox, interior trim, chassis and bodywork". Judging the paintwork to be original, he notes that "there is a small envy scratch on the nearside below the rear window". While other declared faults comprise a cracked offside rear light lens and some light scuffing to the nearside alloy wheels. Apparently benefiting from a "full service history", the car is said to have had "four previous owners" and to have covered "just 58,000 miles from new". Reportedly "running without fault", it is summed-up by the seller as "a properly cared for 500SEC with an unmarked interior and Blaupunkt stereo". An undoubted modern classic (most sources agree that 500SEC production for 1991 was limited to 499 units worldwide), 'K834 APC' is offered for sale with history file and MOT certificate valid until April 9th 2007.
