Lot 19 - 1990 Audi Quattro Turbo

1990 Audi Quattro Turbo

Lot details
Registration No: G944EPB
Chassis No: WAUZZZ85ZLA00508
Mot Expiry: July 2007

Introduced at the March 1980 Geneva Motor Show, the Audi Quattro Turbo was destined to revolutionise the faces of both international rallying and high-speed motoring. Based around a two-door monocoque bodyshell equipped with all-round independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and rack and pinion steering, its permanent all-wheel drive system was famously derived from that of the VW Iltis utility vehicle. Powered by a turbocharged five-cylinder engine, the model's speed, poise and agility netted Audi two drivers' (1982, 1984) and two constructors' titles (1983, 1984) in the World Rally Championship. Progressively enhanced during an eleven-year production life, the Quattro Turbo merited its own dedicated production line in Hall N2 of Audi's Ingolstadt plant (each hand-built car undergoing a gruelling multi-point inspection before being signed off). Phased in during July 1989, the last of the line '20-valve' cars boasted a new 'RR' code DOHC 2226cc powerplant that developed some 220bhp and 228lbft of torque. Further upgraded with forged alloy (rather than pressed steel) suspension wishbones, Bosch Motronic control, enlarged 269mm ventilated rear discs and a revamped interior, they were reputedly capable of 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds and 146mph. Only around 1,000 '20-valve' Quattros are thought to have been made with the final one rolling off the assembly line and straight into Audi's museum on 17th May 1991.
Finished in silver with grey cloth / black leather upholstery, this particular right-hand drive '20-valve' example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its 2226cc engine, five-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Said to have had just "three previous keepers", 'G944 EPB' is understood to have been in the "current ownership since July 1994". Reportedly treated to new cambelts almost immediately after purchase at 66,708 miles, it is believed to have covered 120,058 miles from new. Riding on alloy wheels, this highly desirable Quattro Turbo is offered for sale with a "fully stamped service book", copy insurance valuation certificate for £16,000 and MOT certificate valid until July 12th 2007.

PLEASE NOTE: The vendor has informed us that there is a little rust to the wheel arches on this vehicle.
