For most of its existence, the Birmingham Small Arms Company was the UK's largest motorcycle manufacturer. Indeed, in the immediate postwar years, when the once mighty and now long gone Small Heath works turned out over 75,000 machines in a good year, BSA was actually the world's number one bike maker.
As well as making the legendary Gold Star 4-stroke single, which was successful both as a cafe racer for the road as well as a popular steed for the Clubmans TT on the IOM, their Bantam 2-stroke singles of 125cc and 175cc capacity proved to be a great hit with commuters.
Offered here is a Bantam 175, which, as confirmed by a VMCC certificate, was manufactured in Birmingham in 1960 and is said to be to factory spec without mods. According to the Staffordshire vendor, the bike was last restored in 1999. The current condition of frame and cycle parts are said to be very good and the black paintwork excellent. Both motor and gearbox are reportedly in good order.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
