Lot details Registration No: SAW619H Chassis No: AWT8943 Mot Expiry: Sept 2013
The raison d'etre for Ford's legendary GT40 was simple - to win the incomparable Le Mans 24 Hour race - something it did four times in succession (1966-1969). And, while the company kept faith with the clause in the Prototype regulations that required entrants to offer series-production examples for sale, it was never in large numbers, and never through the Ford dealer network. Of the 133 made originally, only 39 were configured for street use. They are rarely offered for sale these days, but fetch pretty heady prices when they are, and have long since been beyond the pocket of the average enthusiast - hence the thriving market for evocations, some of which are very hard to distinguish from the real thing.
This impressive-looking 1988/1989 GTL40 apes the original cars by featuring a monocoque rather than spaceframe chassis and was professionally assembled "to the highest specification" that includes: Rose-jointed suspension, Bilstein gas dampers, ventilated disc brakes and four-pot AP Racing alloy callipers all-round. The 3.5-litre V8 powerplant features modified and gas flowed cylinder heads, a Kent camshaft (224) and hydraulic valve lifters. The fast Ford comes complete with a five-page history, original parts catalogue and MOT into September 2013. Finished in Pearlescent White, 'SAW 619H' is understood to have covered less than 1,000 post-completion miles to date.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
