This 1954-built Matchless G9 500 has been given a three year restoration. Frame and swinging arm were shot-blasted and powder coated, and all tinware blasted and sprayed in two-pack black. The 500cc overhead valve twin was rebuilt with crank ground -10 thou and cylinders rebored +20 thou, with bearings, seals, pistons, valves, guides, cam followers, pushrods, rocker pins, bushes and carb renewed, and magneto and dynamo overhauled.
The gearbox was treated to new bearings and seals, and a new kickstart quadrant fitted. Primary and drive chains were renewed. Front and rear Teledraulic legs were overhauled with bushes, seals and inner tubes renewed at the front. The wheels were rebuilt with new rims and stainless steel spokes and fitted with new tyres and tubes. Finally, the wiring loom was replaced, the speedo overhauled and a new seat fitted.
Current condition of frame, cycle and mechanical parts is described as being very good, the 35 mileage displayed claimed to be since restoration. There is a 1954 dating certificate from the AJS and Matchless Owners Club.
