The origins of BSA go way back to armaments manufacturing, which started in 1863. Pedal cycle production followed in the 1880s and the first motorised-cycle, a Minerva powered machine, was made in 1905. Their reputation as a serious bike maker was really established by a series of reliable V-twins during the 1920s.
In their heyday, the Birmingham Small Arms Company was the UK's largest motorcycle manufacturer, and the years immediately following WW2, BSA was actually the world's biggest marque, the Midland firm producing more than 75,000 bikes in some years during the 1950s. In those heady days, the BSA group, which had also taken over Ariel and Sunbeam, was an industrial giant.
The 1961-built Bantam 125 in black with original buff logbook offered here has had only four owners from new. A Villiers 10D motor of 122cc capacity has been fitted at some time and this single cylinder, along with the 3-speed gearbox, are said to be in good order. The bike can, of course, be ridden on an L plate.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
