Introduced in 1946, Bentley's MkVI was the first vehicle ever offered by the company with factory-designed coachwork, and the first to be assembled in Rolls-Royce's Crewe factory rather than the old Derby premises. Capable of over 100mph, when clad in the factory's understated 'standard steel saloon' coachwork, the MkVI quickly developed a reputation for being a refined yet responsive drive.

An early car, this MkVI was registered in January of 1950 to a solicitor in Kings Lynn, Norfolk. After a year, the MkVI was then sold to Allan Adair, also known as Major-General Sir Allan Henry Shafto Adair, 6th Baronet, GCVO, CB, DSO, MC & Bar, JP, DL. He was a senior officer of the British Army who served in both world wars; with the Grenadier Guards in the First World War, and as General Officer Commanding of the Guards Armoured Division in the Second World War, and Colonel of The Grenardier Guards.

In current family ownership for c.20 years and in maintained upkeep in that time, the car still retains original features including the sunroof, which is operational, and we are advised that all the instruments were found to be working at the time of consignment. The jack is also present. It is described by the vendor as having ‘excellent’ chrome and has also been fitted with a stainless-steel exhaust. In recent times, the MkVI has seen little usage in the last 5 or 6 years.

In the past, the car has benefitted from attention to the braking system and been subject to an engine overhaul c.15 years ago by a leading RR&B Specialist Association Member. Other refreshing has included the retrimming of the front seats and subsequently the fitting of seat belts for added safety on modern roads. Other features include improvements to the indicators and the addition of a 12v power point.

This MkVI, with a very interesting ownership history, is offered with a few old MOT certificates and a current V5C document.
