Lot details Registration No: BMG 512 Chassis No: 196251 Mot Expiry: Oct 2004
Offered here is an Austin 7 Nippy, first registered in 1934, which, says the entrant, has had a 7.8hp engine of 858cc capacity fitted at some time. The logbook and registration documents confirm that the characterful 2-seater has been owned by a lady in Poole, Dorset, since 1972.
More recently, the Birmingham-made sports went to Eastern Motor Services for total restoration, which included repairing and repainting the open body, having various items rechromed, the upholstery retrimmed and the battery renewed. Meanwhile, the engine was rebuilt by Ranley Engineering with block rebored to give 858cc capacity, crankshaft replaced, and main bearings, big ends and pistons renewed. The clutch was refurbished, the brakes overhauled with wheel cylinders and linings replaced, wheels sandblasted and repainted, and tyres renewed. Indeed, all this extensive work was only completed in June 2002, since when - and as confirmed by the MOT certificates on file - the car was only driven 17 miles in a year and has always been dry stored.
Current condition of blue over black painted bodywork is claimed to be very good and black interior excellent, engine is reportedly 'very sweet' and transmission in very good order. The only outstanding items on the 'things to do' list are renewal of radiator cap seal, rectifying fuel gauge fault, repairing passenger door opening mechanism and fitting rearview - very minor items. The most recent MOT pass is current until next October.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle is a non runner and has a flat battery.
