One of the classic images of the 1960s heyday of British motorcycling is the Triton, a perfect blend of the legendary Norton Featherbed frame and the Triumph 650 twin engine. The 'Cafe Racer' style is still popular with most modern-day manufacturers including one in their range. Nortons Featherbed frame was initially developed for racing, eventually making its way into the road bike range a few years later and setting new standards for handling with its basic geometry still used as the benchmark today. Unfortunately, the original Norton engines were not as reliable so an obvious answer was to replace them with the stronger and more readily available Triumph 650 twin, starting a whole cottage industry in handmade specials.
This Triton is not a modern-day evocation but an original bike put together in 1966 using all the classic modifications and issued with its registration number 'KWR66D' at the time. Part of a deceased estate it has been on display in the vendor's house for a number of years so will need some recommissioning but is an excellent example of the genre. It comes with its original 1966 buff logbook and a V5C.
