The Birmingham Small Arms factory was established in the Small Heath area of Birmingham 1861 and as the name suggests manufactured weapons. Around the turn of the century they started making bicycles and progressed onto motorcycles a few years later. Machines like the S23 helped establish BSAs reputation as reliable and dependable bikes and they went on to become one of the world's largest producers of motorcycles up until their demise in the early 1970s.
This1923 S23 was owned by the vendor's father for many years, the V5C suggesting he was the first owner on the 4th of April 1923. Nice and original it looks to have had some restoration work decades ago and still sports its original acetylene lamps. Now approaching its 100th birthday it has not been run for many years but will make fascinating restoration project.
