Lot details Registration No: MIA 6846 Chassis No: GHN5460458G Mot Expiry: April 2006
When the MGB replacement for the A came to market in September 1962, there were two highly significant changes; a lower and wider steel monocoque body-shell rather than the A's separate chassis and body, and a more torquey 1798cc replacing the 1622cc capacity motor fitted to final MGAs. A fixed head B GT joined the open B in MG showrooms from 1965, a Mk2 B with new grille, all-synchromesh box with auto-shift option, and either Rostyle or wire-spoked wheels became available in 1969, while US regs compliant, black-fendered cars appeared from 1974.
Made in 1978, this MGB is claimed by the vendor to be a first class example. Restored some six years ago, the always right-hand drive roadster had only been driven 12,097 miles when entered for the sale. Said to be in very good condition, the bodywork is finished in Inca Yellow, the interior in black leather, rated as lovely, and the hood in double-duck. Both 1.8-litre four and four-speed manual box with overdrive are reportedly in very good order as are electrical items. This `British Open' classic has also only just been successfully MOT-tested, the latest pass certificate being valid until April of next year.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
