Destined to be the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, Honda was founded in postwar Japan when Soichiro Honda (1906-1991) set up his Honda Technical Centre in a small wooden shed in Hammamatsu in 1946. Honda aimed to prove his fellow and defeat-hit citizens with motorised economy transport. Only one year after attaching army surplus motors to bicycles, he had made his first 50cc 2-stroke engine. By 1949, twenty employees were making complete bikes, the 98cc 2-stroke Dream being the first of many models. The first of many more Hondas to make an impact in export markets were 4-strokes, the 250cc SC72 and 305cc CB77.
According to the vendor of this 1974-manufactured 500/4, the 498cc 4-cylinder Honda is a lovely example of this supersmooth bike, which, having given excellent service during this last summer, is reportedly a lovely example, finished in bronze, with only around 21,000 miles displayed. Indeed, we understand that this much sought after model is only crossing the block today due to the need to clear a property prior to relocation.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
