Henry Ford's famous Model T was introduced 1 October 1908 and - 15 million Model Ts later - production ceased 26 May 1927. Ford's first European assembly plant was actually set-up in the North West at Trafford Park, where Detroit-made Model Ts in crates shipped in via the Manchester Ship Canal were assembled. Ford's main UK factory did not open for business until 1931, however, besides the River Thames at Dagenham, where Model AA 1.5-ton trucks and Model Y saloons were built.
This Dagenham-built Y Type first left the Essex works in 1936. In recent years, we understand, the righthand drive saloon has belonged to the private Alcock Collection and during this residency has been used for various Museum runs. The vendor tells us that the running boards have been renewed at some time and the headlining retrimmed, whilst the green paintwork is described as being in good condition.
Up and running Model Ys, like this, are becoming quite hard to find, so today's buying opportunity to acquire this one should represent a welcome opportunity for collectors.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
