Rover made its name in bicycles and, in 1904, produced its first car. After their main Coventry factory had been hit by WW2 bombing, the then fully independent Rover Company restarted postwar car production at their satellite plant at Solihull, where they had been making Bristol aero engine parts during wartime. In late 1949, Rover launched the P4, initially with 2103cc 75 engine, in an all new body which is said to owe its styling to Leowy's Studebaker. The final versions of the Type - the 95 and 110 with 102 and 123bhp 2625cc engines - were made 1961-1964.
