  • The GP200 was the last of the great Lambretta scooters that rolled off of Innocenti’s production line in Milan. Produced from January 1969 until April 1971 it is said a total of only 9350 DL/GP200’s were made. The DL200 (known as the GP200 in the UK market with battery tray) followed the SX200 and retained the engine prefix of SX200 before the serial number. There were however significant improvements to the engine over the SX including: improved crankshaft, a complete overhaul of the gearbox ratios and improved Ducati ignition. The iconic bodywork followed the trends of the day of the early 1970’s. The Bertone design was more streamlined than its predecessors with a new 22/2 frame and rectangular headlight.

The vendor is a well known aficionado of GP200s on the UK collector scene and has a wealth of knowledge in the marque. This scooter has been in his ownership for several decades. His scooters are now gradually reluctantly coming up for sale and only for health reasons. His scooters are always standard using original and NOS parts.

This example has been treated to a restoration to a level of originality that can only be described in our opinion as exceptional. The fastidious level of detail down to the smallest parts can be clearly seen by careful examination of the photographs. Starting with the electrics she is 6 volt standard on points with an original NOS Ducato coil, NOS rectifier, and using an original NOS 6v SAFA battery. The ignition switch is a NOS original with original key. The panels are a superb fit. The seat is the correct original SILME seat for early GPs. The floor edging ‘Sharks teeth’ are original as is the Bomisa leg shield badge. There are no stainless fastenings anywhere on the scooter and all parts are BZP as they would have been on the original. The cables are all fastened with the correct straps and have the correct grease nipple points. The original speedometer has been restored and re-calibrated showing only 1 mile since the restoration. The brake adjusters are the original brass versions found on early GPs. The plastic parts are also NOS original and the grey toolbox is an actual original part. Even the keys that are all present for ignition, toolbox and steering lock are the correct era and not reproductions. The smallest details that are often overlooked are present. The engine has been completely rebuilt to the same standard using all NOS parts including NOS Borgo piston with NOS rings and original GP200 barrel and head. The exhaust is the revered Scootopia GP version. We have seen the scooter running. She has bright headlights and started easily as one would expect. She will need running in.

This is a very good opportunity for anyone looking for a white standard GP200 restored to an exceptional level. The obsolete hard to find original parts nowadays take extreme patience and high cost to locate. A restoration that would cost from a starting point many thousands of pounds.
