When it was first produced by the British Motor Corporation in 1959, the Austin-Healey 3000 with 2912cc six-cylinder engine was an updated version of their 2.6-litre 100/6, which, in turn, replaced the earlier four-cylinder 100. The 3000 model became even more popular on both sides of the Atlantic as an open-top British sportscar, which, when fitted with the extra-gear overdrive, was a delight to drive. The unstressed big six quickly earned a reputation for being capable of motoring on and on, too, without complaint. Whilst thanks to the BMC factory team and Donald Healey Motor Company participation in the toughest rallies and the major long-distance sportscar races, private entrants really took to the Big Healey and, indeed, have been doing so ever since.
This 3000 MKIII, a Phase 2 BJ8 with 2+2 seating and therefore from the last series of this great British classic sportscar, is an original right-hand drive model, says the entrant, which has been maintained for the last ten years by leading marque specialist John Chatham. It is claimed to be in excellent mechanical order and is ready to go anywhere.
We understand that the body was repainted in Olde English White some ten years ago, the current condition of the paintwork rated by the vendor as excellent. The interior, said still to be the original, is also good. Whilst the 3-litre capacity straight-six is reportedly in good order as are the four-speed manual gearbox with the desirable overdrive option and the electrical equipment.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
