After 30,000 of the MkVII as well as the improved MkVIIM had been made and sold up to 1957, the MkVIII successor appeared in Jaguar dealer showrooms with one-piece windscreen and overdrive or optional automatic transmission.
This MkVIII first left the famous Browns Lane works in Coventry 1958, since when, incredibly, it is said to have had just one registered owner. The 63,746 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for this sale is believed by the entrant to be the genuine total mileage for this very gentlemanly, though nonetheless sporting Jag from new. The MOT has only very recently been renewed, so the current certificate will be valid until next November.
The chassis is said to be in good shape and the body panels fair with original grey two-tone colour scheme and red interior also fair. The bumpers have been rechromed, a stainless steel exhaust fitted and two tyres renewed. Both the classic 3442cc six-cylinder XK engine, which has excellent oil pressure of 30psi on tickover, and the three-speed automatic transmission are reportedly in good order as is the electrical equipment.
