Considered by many to be the last proper Le Mans, undiminished by the whims of fashion such as swoopy bodywork and 16-inch front wheels and not fettered by increasing noise and emission restrictions, the Mk III was introduced during 1982. The new machine adopted more angular styling with 'squared off' barrels and heads, a sleek new fuel tank and saddle and a sharp, angular handle bar fairing with frame mounted spoilers in place of the full three-piece unit worn by its predecessor. The well proven power unit remained largely unchanged although the cylinders now featured Niusil liners and, in part thanks to a revised exhaust system, the over head valve engine developed an impressive 78bhp at 7800 rpm, 4bhp more than its predecessor. The stable, surefooted handling of the Mk I and II variants remained as did the excellent braking provided by the linked triple disc system equipped with Brembo callipers. "Motorcycling" concluded their road test of the new model with the following "Don't let the pretty, low looks fool you - the Le Mans is a bruiser....it's very fast, very good at behaving very fast, and unique - a pleasure to ride just for the ride."
The example offered is presented in lovely original condition with no obvious modifications from the standard specification. It has recorded only 13966 kilometres on the odometer and is offered with German documentation.
