This 12 is the two-seater version complete with dickey and was supplied new by Rootes of Maidstone to a Miss Hallifax-Ward (reputedly a friend of Lord Austin) for the princely sum of £275. Robert Thornton acquired it from the now unknown second owner in 1966 and retained it until at least 1973, when it featured in a Michael Sedgwick article in Veteran And Vintage magazine, of which the vendor has a copy. In recent years it was owned in quick succession by John Holloway (2003), Robert Lintall (2004) and Eric Bowman (2004), from whom the vendor acquired it in 2006 and exported it to Ireland, where it has remained until now. The 1.9-litre engine is cooled by a combination of pump and fan and coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox. The cable-operated brakes are supplemented by a transmission handbrake. A unique opportunity to acquire a rare and apparently very original British classic.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
