Further Info:
The TR6 was introduced in 1968, and was the best-seller of the TR range when production ended in 1976. The bodywork closely resembled that of the previous model, the Triumph TR5, but the front and back ends were squared off. All TR6 sports cars featured in-line six-cylinder engines, and like the TR5, the TR6 was fuel-injected for all markets except the US, hence the TR6 PI designation. The Lucas mechanical fuel injection system helped the home-market TR6 produce 150 bhp at model introduction. Later, it was detuned to 125 bhp. The TR6 featured a four-speed manual transmission with an optional overdrive. The TR6 also featured semi-trailing arm independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, 15-in wheels and tyres, pile carpets, bucket seats, and full instrumentation. Braking was by front disc brakes, and drum brakes at the rear. A factory steel hardtop was optional, requiring two people to fit it. The TR6 dashboard was wooden, and factory options included, a rear anti-roll bar and a limited-slip differential.
The TR6 on offer here is a UK-supplied RHD car first registered on 11th March 1975 and is therefore eligible for Historic Class road fund licence. The car had an extensive 'nut and bolt' restoration, including a new chassis, in the late noughties. According to the TR bible 'Triumph' by Bill Piggott, this TR6 was built in late 1974. The engine of the car has been equipped with SU carburettors, replacing the usual but sometimes troublesome fuel injection set up, making tune ups and driveability much easier. Finished in the correct Carmine Red with a Beige interior, with full weather equipment including a full tonneau cover and a mohair hood in matching red. The TR comes with racing door mirrors, a Motalita wooden steering wheel, overdrive and painted wire wheels. The vendor says that the car behaves impeccably on the road with good braking and steering and the overdrive engaging instantly.
