Introduced in 2004, the 997-series of Porsche’s iconic 911 allied all the technological improvements of its 996-series predecessor – a lighter / stiffer bodyshell, better suspension / brakes, four-valve cylinder heads and a superior HVAC system – to more classical styling. Available in Carrera or Carrera S guises when launched, the former allied a 3.6 litre engine (rated at 321bhp/273lbft) to either six-speed manual or five-speed Tiptronic transmission. Reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds and 178mph, it may have been outgunned by some of its siblings but arguable offered the sweetest driving experience. Better built and better looking than a 996 and smaller and more agile than a 991 (or current 992), great examples of 997 manual gearbox cars are becoming increasingly collectible.
First registered on January 14th 2005, this exceptional ‘C16’ 997 Carrera has covered just 48,600 miles from new in the hands of three careful owners. To purist specification – i.e. rear-wheel drive, manual and with far fewer driver aids than a current 911 – it also benefits from the less bore-score-prone 3.6 litre engine which was treated to a new clutch, battery and replacement IMS and RMS bearings in February 2021. Finished in the sought-after combination of Seal Grey metallic with Black leather upholstery, ‘EU54 CXN’ boasts a Porsche switchable exhaust, Navigation DVD Europe, heated 16-way adaptive sport seats and Xenon headlights not to mention the desirable Sport Chrono Plus pack comprising a dashboard-mounted stopwatch and sport button that simultaneously stiffens the suspension, tightens the throttle response and slackens the traction control. Serviced at 4,323, 8,687, 14,013, 16,621, 17,220, 17,761, 30, 134, 46,701 and 48,358 miles (seven main dealer, two specialist), the 911 is worthy of close inspection. A discerning enthusiast reducing their collection who has known of this car for more than fourteen years, the vendor was drawn to ‘EU54 CXN’ by its condition. Said to be a potential concours contender, it is offered for sale with book pack, tailored indoor and outdoor car covers, embroidered mats, standard exhaust, tool kit and passenger door umbrella etc.
