If you were to ask a non motorcyclist to name a make of bike there is a good chance that they will answer Harley Davidson. The firm, founded in 1903 by William S Harley and his friend Arthur Davidson in Milwaukee, quickly established itself as one of the United States premier motorcycle manufacturers surviving the Great Depression when the majority of its rivals failed. The post war years were good for the company, however, by the early eighties the company was struggling, with a product range that was technically challenged by its Japanese rivals. Their response has subsequently become a model for other manufacturers in a variety of fields. The motorcycles were refined whilst adhering to the basic design philosophy and the "brand" was aggressively marketed with everything from Harley Davidson clothes to Harley Davidson aftershave and deodorant being made available.
This life size wooden sculpture of a Harley Davidson style motorcycle, offered complete with a wooden wheeled display plinth is the ultimate for any enthusiast of the Milwaukee brand in particular and Americana motorcycles in general.
